About Us

The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) was created in 2008 by the merger of Leeds Grammar School for boys with Leeds Girls’ High School.

In September 2015 GSAL introduced its own Transport Company, GSAL Transport Ltd, and was issued with a Public Service Vehicle Operator’s Licence.

Drivers are recruited in the same way as all staff employed by the school; they are all DBS checked and fully trained in safeguarding like all other support and teaching staff.

We are string believers in environmental safety, therefore we use low-emission vehicles that are better for the environment.

Additionally we can monitor our routes and respond to the needs of GSAL families and we can manage all admin and payments in-house to make it as easy as possible for parents and pupils.

Being a separate company allows us to provide private hires to other local schools or groups, when our busses are not being used. We extend this service nationally so don't be afraid to send in a quote because you don't operate in Yorkshire.

Starting from the right we have the 2012 Outstanding Governing Body Of The Year Award.

Second from the right is the Stars Award For Promoting Public Transport, awarded in 2016.

Next we have the Modeshift Stars award which is awarded to "recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel."

Finally on the left we have the National STARS Secondary School of the year award for 2017, awarded to the associated school (GSAL) for "reducing car use by 9% by using an innovative approach in creating GSAL Transport Limited providing an in-house bus service for students to use for school travel within a 30 mile radius."

Recently, one of our drivers, Peter Oakley, revived the 'Top UK Education Services Driver' award. This is certainly an achievement worth commending.
